I own an M1 with 2TB and 16GB and would like to say that this is by far the best "value for money" computer I ever used. For me Apple in most products (especially smartphones) is annoyingly anti-innovative and way overpriced, but this device is phenomenal: really fast, 100% stable (I use macOS 12) and reliable while beeing noiseless (!!!). And I use it professionally (Photoshop, InDesign, …). Although I was always focused on speed using a computer, I did not have the wish to upgrade to another Mx yet (which I could with no problem), that says a lot about this device.

In my opinion, M1 Mac Air is the best laptop ever made; in terms of performance, portability, reliability, battery, and value this laptop has no competition. It may not be cheap, but considering how long it will last – makes it worth it!
How about the envy 13..i7.. Which is on sale at Costco right now?….
No Air it’s annoying, even holding & editing the 13” won’t help you at all, I probably can edit faster on a 15.6” pc, because I would have a larger field of view, if you have the money go with the 16”, I waste 1 day on the air & 1h on the pc, so what’s the point of rendering faster when you waste more to notice simple things on the 13”
In my opinion, the m1 max display wasn't stunning, it just made the previous models look bad. Which made it stunning.
I got a 16gb mba and I do use more than 8gb of ram.
I want a 15 inch MB Air. M1 power is enough, I just want a bigger screen

What about running windows in a vm. Would the extra power and ram be needed then ?
It is up to your requirements. I need to at least 32 GB ram memory and big display. So once I know what I need the choice is simple. Do I have another option to go around them in terms of prices listed on apple website ? 🙂 Meaningless info at least for me, just blah, blah watered common sense shoddy talk.
Picked up the M1 MacBook Air w/ an 8 core GPU, 16gb ram and 512gb ssd for my wife. Really impressed, faster than my 2019 MacBook Pro 16”.
M1 Air is awesome for most end users not doing heavy work, but the ram/disk space/screen size become a hindrance for even a hobby developer.
I’m such a gear junky that I want that Max MacBook Pro just because…but obviously its not a “just because” price tag. I’m happy with my MacBook Air right now though. Cheers…and nice how the Batman trailer just played lol…only time i didn’t skip the ads…great vid!!
Alright then, I am now convinced that I absolutely do need to max my credit to max my computing. I'm doing intensive music production on Ableton Live so, yes, I do need all that extra power. Thank you for validating my extravagance!
Your point on portability and accessories is perfect. That’s why I think the 14 inch pro is the sweet spot between portability and power. The 16 inch with a 12.9 iPad though makes me question the need for an external monitor thanks to sidecar. Great content as usual Gary!
Just got my M1 MacBook Air in today. I needed to transfer some files from my old 15" 2015 rMBP a few minutes ago. Opened it up, checked the battery percentage, 24%, should be plenty. half a minute later it shuts off, can't turn it back on until I plug in the charger, and then it'll happily display 24% again. Been like that for a while now. God it has not aged well. The M1 feels like it gets out of my way again.
The intel MBA was just meh – it was small it was light but other than being able to run OSX, it didn't really distinguish itself from the other ultrabooks. The M1 MBA is another story, it can trounce the intel ultrabooks. The MBP max is fast but 90% of people don't need that sort of thing and the 10% that do won't even stress the machine 95% of the time.
